R-408A

R-408A is an HCFC-based refrigerant gas used to substitute R-502 in medium-low temperature commercial refrigeration. The law imposes the obligation to dispose of exhausted refrigerant gases.

Applications: 
medium-low temperatures commercial refrigeration (supermarket cabinets).

Advantages:
Compatible with mineral oils in most cases, even if, for optimal oil return, an alkylbenzene oil (AB) is recommended. Changing the compressor oil with AB oil typically removes 50 to 80% of the MO oil present, and this is sufficient to follow the recommendations of most compressor manufacturers. It requires from 10 to 25% less refrigerant.

Calendar for elimination from the market:
As for the other HCFC, it will not be usable from 01.01.2010.

Compatible lubricants:
Alkylbenzene (AB), mineral oils (MO).
